Sicklinghall and Linton, visiting the Windmill and dining at the Scotts Arms, Sicklinghall
Through prior arrangement, we used the Scotts Arms car park to meet and begin our walk from. Sicklinghall is a small, pretty village with very limited on street parking, so for large groups pre arrangement is essential.
Stockeld Park is just down the road, and has many paths and woods to explore, including the large hall that can be used for exhibitions and functions. We only walked through today, but may return for an afternoon sometime.
From here we joined the Harland way, which is an old disused railroad, now used as a cycle and walking path into Wetherby. After a brief stop for refeshment, we left this path and cut across an estate towards Linton. Along the route are many large individually designed houses, it may be called millionaires mile, very nice indeed!
Many of us couldn't decide if we'd actually visited the Windmill at Linton before, but I can say we definitely have, and I have the photos to prove it! This is a fabulous pub, great service, warm and friendly, and of course excellent ales and lagers. Although we did encounter a couple of opportunists rummaging through our rucksacks. Thankfully, nothing was taken, and the situation hopefully was mistaken, and we gave them the benefit of the doubt.
As we left the pub, I noticed my Garmin had gained two miles to the walk, and realisted we had been there over an hour, and the satnav was still recording every step! Proving that it can keep you active visiting the pub.
The walk in general was easy, and we were going to be too early returning to the Scotts, so some of us decided to extend the walk to the top end of the village, adding 1.5 miles and a little time. A total of 9 miles was recorded, and a very pleasant day's walk it was.
The Scotts Arms easily accommodated all of us for a late traditioned Sunday Lunch, and most of us enjoyed all of it, but perhaps due to us being over 20 people dining together, a delay with the veg and other meals did happen. Nevertheless, the overall experience was yet again excellent! Thank you to Sue, who added a few photos, and 3 or 4 are from a previous day when Joan and myself did this walk.
