Walton Nature Trail and Waterton Park
Our walk began in Walton nature reserve at the free car park on Shay lane. There are many paths through this area, so planning a route is easier as you can end up going in circles! We knew the route, and still managed to go wrong, as we were trying to see the mining memorial site located in the centre. The walk takes in Waterton and Wintersett park, and also Walton Hall. The woods near Walton Hall are better seen in April as they are carpeted with bluebells, which I found more memorable the last time we walked here.
It's quite a walk at 8 miles minimum, but the scenery changes from woods, lanes, old canals, housing and fields is very interesting, even though it is a fairly flat walk.
We were a little late arriving at the New Inn, Walton, and it was very busy, but our tables for 12 was all ready. A very efficient waiter took our orders, and all the food arrived together. Really great traditional Yorkshire food served at its best! I would definitely recommend!
