We started the walk from Studley Roger car park, NT or pay and display. There is a decent toilet block at the far end.
This is a varied walk, nothing too difficult, except a very muddy decline after passing through woodland! We all managed without ending up on our backside, thanks to the use of branches and good luck. It was truelly a photographers paradise. Apart from about half an hour of rain, we continually took pics! Billy of course had many dips in the river, which seemed to have quite a strong current in places, causing a little worry for us, but certainly not Billy! Joan had to drag him out due to the steepness of the river banking. We had lunch sat on a 30 foot log, in a very pleasant setting in the woods. While we were sat there, one of the local gentry pulled up in his Land Rover, and chatted about the many walks that were possible, stating that a photo of our group together would look great. Shame we didn't ask him to take one while he was there! |
As the walk continued, in the lush green parkland, we saw many deer, they do tend to keep their distance, but with telephoto lens and a little luck, we got some nice pics.
Although the walking distance was recorded at 7.5 miles, Joan and Phil recorded just under 9 miles, but Roger's ever right Sat Nav confirmed the lower......Enjoyable though it was, we all thought it was over 8 miles! With lunch it took 4 hours anyway. There are many walks throughout this area, so I haven't put a specific link to this one, but for a choice: http://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/en/our-woods/hackfall/Pages/aislabiewalk.aspx?wood=4375#.UmqPNoWx74g Thanks to Paul and his web connection, we chose the Galphay Inn for refreshment, which was a few minutes away, a great choice!
