Youlgreave July Circular
Youlgreave and River Lathkill walk
The walk on Sunday 19th July.
As the walk was is in Derbyshire (58 miles away), we set off a bit earlier, meeting at the Spread at 9:00 am. The walk was a 9 mile circular route taking in some absolutely beautiful scenery. The area is very pretty and as there was no pub en route packed lunches were required. We began at Middleton by Youlgreave, Moor Lane car park, (which is a couple of miles outside the village).
The walk began by descending the hillside for around one mile down to the river Bradford which is very picturesque. After about 1.5 miles, the river Bradford joins the River Lathkill which we followed for a further 5 miles. We broke away from the river Lathkill at Sheepwash Bridge, just before Lathkill Cave and climbed for 1.5 miles back up to the car park.
Though this walk was a bit longer than what we normally do, it was a very easy, almost flat walk for over 75% of the way, with a fairly steep descent at the start and a brief but strenuous set of steps near the end.
There was a good pub about a mile from the car park where we went for a drink afterwards. Can't remember the name of the pub, could've been the George or Black Bull? The real ale (3 guest beers) and CHIPS were excellent value! I think maybe four plates of chips were ordered, and although we insisted that we had all that we ordered, they kept bringing more and more chips! Later, we discovered that someone was asking the staff how long their order of chips was going to be.....
