Flamborough August 2016, 8 miles round South Landing, North Landing and Flamborough Lighthouse
Our walk was very popular this year, 20+ of us! We parked at the lighthouse car park, and enjoyed breakfast at the fantastic Lighthouse cafe before heading SW to South landing. The weather was bright and sunny, and very warm, with a gentle breeze from the sea. There are a few ups and downs, but all were safe and easily manageable. From South Landing we headed inland to Flamborough village. Here we called at the Rose & Crown for a couple of drinks. Thanks to the weather, we were able to enjoy our drinks outside as the pub is quite small inside. Soon we were at the NW of the Flamborough Triangle, the North Landing, which was very busy and had an outside concert featuring various artists, within the caravan complex, and seemed to be enjoyed by the audience. We pressed on, the last 4 miles, ready for our dinner and drinks, past the golf course and shear cliffs on our left, as the Lighthouse came back in view. Everyone was ready for our late lunch, and the Lighthouse cafe serves beer and wine, and a good choice of freshly cooked food.
Waterton Park & Nostell Priory 7.5 miles
This was our early walk in August, which is actually the same walk route we used on the first ever Spread Eagle Walkers outing. Waterton Park has an interesting theme named "Room on my Broom", which is great for kids, and some of the fantastic carvings can be easily missed, so watch out! When we arrived at Nostell Priory, we decided to have refreshments, and the odd wine may have been ordered! The walk was organised by Avril, and it will be added to the book she is writing, which will include many local walks around and in ex mining areas. A pleasant stop at the nearby Anglers Retreat was followed by a late lunch at our very own Spread Eagle, Darrington.
