Our third Sunday of the month's walk was sorted by Tim, and a great job he did! This is a popular walk to the Waterfall, but thins out as it climbs to Top Withens, which some of realised why. Its quite steep, and when you arrive at the derelict site, all you do is retrace your steps after a brief look round. On our approach to Stanbury, our faster walkers bypassed the very nice Wuthering Heights pub, where half of us enjoyed a drink while waiting for the rest of our group to arrive. Our return to Haworth was perfectly timed for a good drink before a late lunch at the Black Bull on Main Street. A great location for people watching, this is a friendly and busy tourist area.
7th July, Buckden, Old Cote Moor Head and Kettlewell, 11.5 Miles
After driving 66 miles to Buckden, we were all ready for a delicious bacon butty and a pot of tea! Thanks to Cath and Mick for their hospitality. We were now fuelled up and ready to go! The walk started from the Buck Inn, heading upwards about two miles to Old Cote Moor Head. From here it got a little easier, before heading downhill to Kettlewell and the Blue Bell Inn. The walk was supposed to be a total of 8.5 miles, but we'd done just under 7 and had at least 4 miles to go! A discussion of disbelief started, but was confirmed by a sign saying 4 miles.... As we usually only walked around 7 miles, the next 4.5 miles was quite hard for Joan and Phil, but everyone else seemed to find it a stroll in the park! Anyway, after a lovely Sunday lunch and drinks in the Buck Inn, the walk was just a memory, and probably one of the top ten hardest walks I have done. A great day was enjoyed by Fiona, Joan, Cath, Phil, Tim, Paul, Mick, John and Eddie, and of course Billy!
