The Oxley Trail begins in Skelmanthorpe, which is in Kirklees. After parking in the main town centre free car park, we headed to the playing fields above the town. As we approached the fields the Oxley Trail is seen towards the left, rather than following a well used path on the sports field. It soon becomes apparent that this is a beautifully created path and route well hidden from the more usual dog walking trails. Although this walk has many ups and downs, this does add to the wonderful scenery and can be seen across the valleys. A full map and walk description is included from the official link below. https://www.kirklees.gov.uk/leisure/countryside/pdf/routes/OxleyTrailMap.pdf After checking various pubs in the area, we chose the British Oak at Calder Grove, which is on the main Denby Dale road from Wakefield. We were lucky to find a room at the back that could take all of us comfortably seated, and although we didn't book, everything went smoothly and the food was excellent, as were the drinks. We will include this pub on any future walks in the area.
