After meeting at the Tadcaster bus station car park, some of us were fascinated by the pay-as-you-go automated toilet! pay 20p and take a memorable break...
We wandered down to the river to begin our walk. A lovely picturesque river walk, with daffy's in bloom, cows grazing and many lambs to see. After a 1.5 miles, we could see the church at Newton Kyme, and followed the well marked path along the river. Soon we were walking towards the church, a Norman built, with Saxon features...a bit of a medieval wonder, with its carvings and face plates at the entrance. The hall was next along, a well maintained building possibly rebuilt in the 1700's. Apparently limited bed and breakfast is available, although it's certainly not advertised... 1 |
Leaving the village by single pathed road, there was light traffic as we passed a now converted Tythe barn. Across the main road, we came to the old Roman road, Rudgate. After turning left, we noticed many lambs were fascinated by us walking in our close group. The mothering sheep went into pretective mode, and made sure they were in between us and them! mint sauce was mentioned!
We soon turned left towards a quarry and a small wood, on our left were great views of Wharedale in the distance. Then on towards more farm houses and down hill back to the river. We had a fantastic beer break with even better food at the Coach and Horses! this was a great surprise, and reasonably priced at about £8 per head for food. Written by Phil 2 |
