-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ideas for walks are welcome, they must be well planned and pub(s) organised enroute!
Around 7 miles and no less than 5.5 miles

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although I have many walks we could do, does anyone have any preferences for any other months coming up? Seven miles seems to be the prefered maximum length, although mid summer we could perhaps s t r e t c h ourselves to more? We have already well exceeded that distance, it depends on who's coming I guess.....Please make sure you know the walk that you would like to share, and of course any available pub/cafes we can visit!

Our walks are usually on the third Sunday every month, but hopefully extra walks can be arranged for the group. We usually discuss possible walks we can do, but often get carried away talking about other subjects, like the book club, holidays, pubs and meals out!
We always manage to select a decent walk at least a week before though, a few of us are able to take charge and arrange this task.

I really do hope you enjoy this website, and I would love to hear your comments or suggestions.

Creation of a walker's group

The walking group started in December 2012, to create an interest already shared by some of the Spread Eagle locals. Many photographs have been taken since we started, and the photos can be fast forwarded if required, or held by using the buttons shown within the slideshow. Also there are a few short stories of our experiences while on our days out together, and some walks that can be copied are included.

At the present time we have 40+ members, although we haven't all managed to get together on a walk! Usually there's around 15 or 16, but as few as 6 of us. No matter though, group members know they can just arrive and come along when they can.

An insight into Darrington leisure time, with a brief history of this beautiful little village

Ancient History

The village of Darrington is truly ancient; a Roman Road is known to have passed through the Parish. There was a Church, Manor House, Farmsteads and Dwelling Houses here before the Norman Conquest. The Doomsday book shows that Darrington was the largest manor in the district with an annual value of 100 shillings.

Around Darrington......

We have three pub/restaurant/hotels, a village playing field, a village shop, Post Office/meeting room, an infant/junior school, Golf Club and various farms, plus some pleasant walks around the village.

The Spread Eagle, Darrington

Picture
A fine traditional pub with a selection of cask ales bar meals and a seperate restaurant. There is also an upstairs function room. There is occasionally live music, the annual Feast and Fayre is usually followed by what is called  the "Eagle Fest"

Although Darrington does have an ancient past, it's not too outdated! young and older mix very well here in Darrington!
