Tadcaster to Catterton and Healaugh Circular
November 16th, 2014's walk was not one of the best walks, it was mainly farm tracks and narrow roads. Eleven of us and Billy the dog, began our walk in Tadcaster bus station car park, which is free parking! It was about half a mile before we arrived at the wide track towards Broad Acres farm. I would say the distance of 7 miles starts here, as we actually did nearer 8 miles in total. Healaugh is a very pretty village, with its own Post Office and a really nice church. Also a brick herringbone feature to some of the walled gardens stood out as unusual.
After covering quite a distance we arrived at Healaugh Manor farm and Priory, to the sound of many cows mooing loudly. It was time for them to go into shelter until next Spring, as was explained by the very friendly farmer who was tending to them. This, I dare say, was the highlight of the whole walk, but the exercise and briskness more than made up for it.
Our chosen pub, the Coach and Horses next to theTadcaster car park, decided we were too large a party to cater for, saying we needed to book much earlier, and tell them what we would like for lunch at the same time! So we didn't even have a drink there, instead we travelled to a pub we've visited before, the Crooked Billet, at Towton. This was very nice and very busy! At short notice, they served us well.
Our next walk will be after Christmas! in fact, Boxing Day. This may become our annual December walk, as everyone really enjoys it!
