Sutton Bank in April
Our walk this month was chosen by our group member-Joan. Although Sutton Bank was visited by us in 2014, this is a different route. It was shown as a 5 mile circular, which turned out to be just under 6 miles. However, my wife Joan and I retraced our steps to look for my lost phone! This added 2 miles before we managed to contact a person who found the phone lying near the pathway. Luckily a gentleman had picked it up and kept it safe, he said he would hand it in on returning to the Visitor Centre. He saved me a lot of heartache of course, and only accepted a handshake as a thank you.
9 of us met at the Centre, and after breakfast began our trek clockwise to Lake Gormire. This is quite a way down to the water, so of course we knew there would be quite a way to get back up! It was very enjoyable and rewarded by more brilliant views at the top.
The route was no problem to follow, there are many paths that could extend or shorten the walk, and they are clearly marked. Some of the pathways are for cyclists too, and in some cases they have their own tracks, great if people read the signs, a bit of a hazard if they don't! Apparently, the cycle paths are more pronounced deeper into the woods, and become more challenging.
We booked the Whitestonecliffe Inn for our Sunday Lunch, and it was excellent. We ate and drank here 5 years ago, and it's still as good. Here is a link for the pub: https://whitestonecliffe.com
