November walk from the Wortley Arms.
We began our walk later than usual today, due to our late lunch here at the Wortley Arms. A few of us decided to call in the Cosy Cafe for bacon sandwiches, to the dismay of most of the group hanging about in the cold! It didn't take too long before we set off into the permissive route through Wortley Hall. The Sun was shining, but it was almost icy cold, hats and gloves ideal. As the walk progressed it did warm up a little.
This is a six mile walk, but it's not an easy one! Of course we included a pub visit which added about a mile on. Some of route is not very clear, and the front pack were called back to continue on the right route, through brambles, loose stones and old barbed wire. This was the official route using O.S. maps.
After around five and a half miles we reached the Bridge Inn. The hosts and staff were happy to serve a rowdy, thirsty bunch, we practically took over the pub with twenty six of us on this walk.
There are many ascents and descents on this route, all are pleasant if not breathtaking. This is typical of a decent walking route, and I personally find it very satisfying once accomplished. No one complained, so I would say everyone would agree!
The Wortley Arms was a real treat. The staff were very professional, and easily dealt with serving all of us. Having a choice of how you like your roast beef cooking is very rare these days, but that's what you get here. The food was marvellous, presentation and quality worthy of more expensive restaurants that you have to book far in advance. Having said that, we did book two weeks ahead due to the size of our group of walkers.
Another great walk to put on our list! Thanks to a fantastic crowd of folk.
